Research

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET is a leader in planning and development related research with significant national and regional impacts. Our students and faculty members are committed in understanding the challenges we face today and proposing the solutions that make our future better and sustainable. We promote inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research collaboration and innovation in solving big challenges.

We work with government, non-profit, and research organizations both locally and globally. Recent researches dealt with minimizing disaster risks through adaptation and risk sensitive land use planning, developing adaptation strategies for government and nongovernment organizations combating climate change impacts, planning inclusive cities through equitable access to urban mobility infrastructure, inland waterways and logistics network, planning and prioritization of rural roads, optimizing land use allocation to ensure compatibility among competing uses, providing low income housing solutions with integrated water supply and sanitation facilities, analyzing economic benefits and environmental impacts of wetlands and open spaces, promoting rural-urban linkages with integrated rural development planning, analyzing regional economic structure to identify potential sector for further investment and many more.
