Team West Line, comprising Md. Roni Molla from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP), BUET, along with Sm Shahir Sadman and Labib Hasan from the Department of Architecture, BUET, secured the Third Prize at the "A Carbon Conscious Urban Design Idea Competition". The team worked under the supervision of Md. Tariquzzaman, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, BUET. The competition, jointly organized by UNOPS, UNEP, UN-Habitat, and RAJUK, in coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Public Works (MoHPW) and funded by the German Development Cooperation (BMZ), promoted innovative low-carbon and climate-resilient urban design solutions. The competition encouraged innovative and sustainable urban design solutions that address contemporary environmental and climate challenges through low-carbon, context-sensitive approaches. Team West Line’s proposal stood out for its thoughtful integration of ecological planning, cultural identity, and sustainable urban design principles. Their award-winning proposal, “Memories of Bengal: An Ecology of Belonging in the Urban Fabric,” reimagines an underutilized urban site as an ecological pocket park inspired by the landscapes and cultural memories of rural Bengal. The design integrates blue-green infrastructure, low-carbon materials, climate-resilient strategies, and inclusive public spaces to foster environmental sustainability, strengthen urban resilience, and enhance community well-being. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the team on this remarkable achievement.
