These were emphasized in the two day long BUET- TU Dortmund Joint students? workshop on ?Dynamics in Urban Informal Settlements? held at BUET. Avit Kumar Bhowmik, a student session 2004-2005 of DURP, BUET is participating in Study of the United States Institute for Student Leaders-2007 program sponsored by the US Department of State. He is participating in it as a member of a group of 20 students from different universities of Bangladesh. The program will be held from July 2-August 5. During this period they will stay at the city Auburn, in Washington state and finally in the Washington D.C where participants from other countries will also join with them.

The 1st Annual Regional Conference on Regional Science (ACRS1) was held on the 16th and 17th March 2007 in three venues at the premise of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Dhaka. The conference was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Regional Science Association (BRSA) and Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
