The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) in collaboration with the Technical University Dortmund, Germany and University of Cologne, Germany and other German and Chinese universities has organized a 2-day long workshop on 25th and 25th February, 2009 at the Council Building and Seminar Room, Civil Engineering Building as part of the German Research Foundation (DFG) project Informal Dynamics of Global Change-Mega Cities, Mega Challenges. As many as 8O participants from home and abroad including 3 from China and 30 from Germany have participated in the workshop. Prof. Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest and Prof. A. M. M. Safiullah, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology was present as the Special Guest in the opening session of the program. Prof. Dr. Sabine. Baumgart from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Technical University Dortmund, Germany briefed about the objectives and researches undergoing within the framework of the whole project in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Pearl River Delta, China. Prof. Dr. Roxana Hafiz, Head, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET chaired the opening session. A total of 14 papers on Informality and Urban Informal Economy, Urban Health, Climate Change and Climate Induced Vulnerability were present in 4 technical sessions of the workshop.
