Mr. Suman Kumar Mitra, Assistant Professor, DURP, BUET (On Leave for Higher Studies) has been selected to receive a UC Irvine Chancellor’s Club Fund for Excellence Fellowship. This fellowship is awarded to the best graduate students at UCI who also show great promise as future leaders. Each recipient of the fellowship is awarded a six-month stipend adding up to $10,000.

Mr. Mitra has also been selected to receive a Public Impact award for his research on car-less households. This award is intended to highlight those researches which demonstrate the potential to significantly improve or enrich the lives of people in California and beyond. Mr. Suman Kumar Mitra is currently enrolled as a PhD candidate in the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) of University of California, Irvine, USA.

Department of Architecture and Department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET have jointly organized Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) on 6-8 November, 2015 at BUET campus. As an associate partner of World Urban Campaign (WUC) of UN-Habitat, this year BUET has got the opportunity to hold the UTC in Dhaka. Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) is an initiative of UN-Habitat for critical exchange between urban researchers, professionals, stakeholders, different actors and decision-makers who believe that urbanization is an opportunity and can lead to positive urban transformations. Défi Bouygues Construction, one of the leading construction companies of France, arranged an international competition titled “Design the District of Tomorrow” which took place from June, 2014 to November, 2014. A group named “Green Fusionists” formed by three students (Tasfia Tasnim, Tasnim Feroze, Poushali Bhattacharjee) of Level-3, Term-2 of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET participated in this competition. Students of Department of Urban and Regional Planning of 2010 Batch, BUET achieved 3rd position at the global level competition “Urban Revitalization of Mass Housing” arranged by UN-Habitat. The competition started in September 15, 2013, with a theme of “achieving adequate shelter for all by placing housing at the center of our thinking, policy and the city”. A total of 97 Teams from 64 Cities, 55 Universities, and 35 Countries have participated and the projects were evaluated by 40 Jury members in different stages. In this competition, a group named Shining Stars, formed by six students (Tasfia Tasnim, Tasnim Feroze, Faisal Bin Islam, Fariba Siddiq, Poushali Bhattacharjee and Sumaya Tabassum Tonny) of 2010 batch of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET submitted a project on “Revitalization of Slums Areas of Dhaka through Mass Housing”.Read More

Studyka, a renowned international organization of France, arranged an international competition titled  “Imagine a City of Tomorrow: Improving a Public Space” at the beginning of this year. In this competition, the group named Starlet, formed by three students (Tasnim Feroze Anannya, Kashfia Nehrin and Tasfia Tasnim) of 2010 batch of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of BUET is awarded the 2nd prize for developing a project focusing on the redesigning BUET campus in an energy efficient way.
